FRIDAY'S NOTES
WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. — Richard Antinucci put in his best Friday afternoon effort since the Kansas round yesterday at the 11-turns, 3.4 miles Watkins Glen International road course in the rolling hills of upstate New York, in the European-style 35-minute qualifying that staged the whole 21-car field on track at the same time. Two early full-course cautions were made necessary to tow James Davison and Andrew Prendeville cars. Soon thereafter all drivers scrambled to put in more or less clean laps and Frenchman Franck Perera, Brazilian Raphael Matos and Antinucci himself jumped at the top of the charts for some time. In the end thanks to a late change of tyres and a stunning last-gasp effort the Frenchman took his maiden Firestone Indy Lights pole.
